LAST UPDATED

April 2023

PROVIDED BY

Winbridge Atlantic Capital

DESCRIPTION

Designed for the working technician with three (3) or more years experience and the
ability to self-motivate; this course focuses on the revision of high-temperature refrigeration
(air conditioning) systems such as package equipment, split-type, and central air
conditioning systems. Troubleshooting techniques are highlighted using simulative
exercises to increase muscle memory for skillful execution of any HVACR task.
Technicians will also be tutored in the development of soft skills for better
communication with their customers.

KNOWLEDGE-BASED OBJECTIVES

Discuss safety issues that air conditioning and refrigeration technicians
must concern themselves with in order to remain safe on the job.

  • Discuss the latest advances and trends in green technology.

  • Explain the concepts of heat transfer, Btu, temperature, heat content, sensible heat, latent heat, pressure, gas laws, and work, and describe how they apply to air-condition and refrigeration systems

  • Describe the four basic components that make up the vapor-compression
    refrigeration cycle

  • Identify the four major system components and explain their functions in
    the refrigeration system

  • Explain the functions and desired characteristics of system refrigerants

  • Discuss the EPA laws governing safe refrigerant handling and transport

  • Explain the concepts of recovering, recycling, reclaiming, and retrofitting
    refrigerants

  • Explain the difference between conductors of electricity and insulators

  • Describe the characteristics of electricity

  • Explain the concepts of voltage, current, and resistance

  • Explain Ohm’s law

  • Explain the differences between series and parallel circuits

  • Describe the tools and equipment used to measure voltage, current, and
    resistance in electric circuits

  • Describe the motors and controls commonly found in air-conditioning
    systems

  • Explain the operation of a heat pump system
